As a result of the Prime Minister’s (Theresa May) first Cabinet, there have been substantial changes to the Environmental portfolio.[caption id="attachment_11931" align="alignleft" width="276"] Andrea Leadsom[/caption] The Environmental Secretary is now Andrea Leadsom. Her full title is Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). She will have overall environmental responsibility including specific responsibilities for EU, international relations and emergency response. In terms of Departments, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) have been disbanded. The replacement is a new Department called Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. It will be headed by Greg Clark, the former Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. Also the new Brexit Department under David Davis, will take over DECC’s current building, while DECC staff will move into BIS’s current offices. Other appointments include:
- Chris Grayling as Transport Secretary
- Philip Hammond as Chancellor
- Former Energy Secretary Amber Rudd has gone to the Home Office; and
- Former Environmental Secretary Liz Truss is with the Ministry of Justice.
